A bioclimatic pergola works because it manages three variables: radiation, ventilation and water. With louvres angled, it cuts direct solar radiation before it heats the floor and surfaces — the temperature difference under the structure easily reaches 6–8 °C. Half-open, they create a chimney effect that extracts hot air and keeps natural circulation.
Closed, the louvres form a watertight plane with drainage built into the profiles: water is guided through internal gutters and discharged through the pillars, invisibly. This triple behaviour is what lets you use the space in mid-August or on a rainy November afternoon.
For hotels and restaurants this means seats that work all year round — the investment in a covered terrace pays back in months, not years.
